What Is PJHPS?
The Pakistan Journal of Herbal and Pharmaceutical Sciences (PJHPS) is Pakistan’s dedicated open-access research journal and clinical results database for herbal and pharmaceutical sciences. It provides patients, healthcare professionals, researchers, university faculty, and the general public with structured access to clinical studies, research findings, and evidence-based outcomes — specifically within the domain of herbal medicine.
PJHPS is an initiative of Awami Laboratories, a GMP-compliant herbal pharmaceutical manufacturer based in Lahore, Pakistan. All herbal products associated with research published on this platform are manufactured under strict quality standards and are registered with the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP).
How Did It Begin?
PJHPS grew out of a broader vision to build an evidence ecosystem for herbal medicine in Pakistan — one that could stand alongside conventional pharmaceutical research in rigour, transparency, and clinical credibility.
The initiative began with Awami Laboratories’ work across key chronic disease areas — Diabetes Type 2, Hepatitis C, High Uric Acid, Jaundice, Lipid Management, Obesity, Low Platelets, Sinusitis, and Heart Health — where reliable, DRAP-registered herbal solutions had already been developed but lacked a structured platform for publishing outcomes and engaging the academic community.
The decision to establish PJHPS as a dedicated research journal — rather than a clinical trials registry alone — was made on the advice of Dr. Tahir, Director at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS), UVAS Lahore, whose guidance shaped the platform’s current direction and academic positioning. This advice reflected a broader understanding that a peer-reviewed journal, properly structured and indexed, would carry significantly greater academic weight and long-term institutional value.
Why a Dedicated Herbal Journal?
Pakistan faces a growing and largely under-documented burden of chronic disease. Conditions such as Diabetes, Hepatitis C, high Uric Acid, fatty liver, and obesity are no longer rare — they are becoming epidemic across both urban and rural populations. Yet the clinical research infrastructure in Pakistan has historically served the conventional pharmaceutical sector, leaving herbal medicine — despite centuries of documented use — without a credible, structured academic home.
Our conviction is straightforward: these are not lifelong diseases. With properly formulated, GMP-manufactured herbal treatment and measurable bioclinical outcomes, many of these conditions can be reversed — not merely managed.
PJHPS exists to document that reversal. By providing a peer-reviewed, internationally registered (ISSN in process) journal dedicated to herbal and pharmaceutical sciences, PJHPS gives researchers, clinicians, and university departments a credible platform to publish findings that would otherwise remain unpublished and unacknowledged.
Following the issuance of our ISSN, PJHPS will pursue HEC recognition — further strengthening the academic value of research published here for contributing faculty and students across Pakistan.
